Welcome to the Otago branch of the New Zealand Federation of Gradate Women (NZFGW) website. All University, College of Education and Polytechnic graduates are welcome to join our organisation.
The Otago branch of the NZFGW has a strong membership and one of our major activities is the hiring of academic regalia for graduation ceremonies. This successful business ensures a sound financial base which enables us to give considerable financial support to our members and the community. We support women’s organisations at a local level and regularly contribute to international funds to ensure that women from developing countries have the opportunity to improve their standard of living and gain further education.
Current Activities Include:
Regular scholarships and financial support for members’ postgraduate research
- Donations to local community groups such as Women’s Refuge and Adult Learning Assistance
- Sponsorship of the New Zealand International Science Festival
- Establishing a research fund for research on social and economic policy affecting women and children
- Young Members activities
International Connections:
- Consultative status at meetings of the United Nations and its specialised agencies: UNESCO, UNICEF
- International conferences which provide the opportunity to network and present papers
- International scholarships
